American Society of Home Inspectors
Unfortunately, all home inspectors do not have the same credentials and
experience in the trades. In the state of Virginia, anyone
can be a home inspector with the purchase of a business license. This
license does not test the personal knowledge about performing a home
inspection. The certificate that most home inspectors aspire to obtain
is the American Society of Home Inspectors certification. In order to obtain this certification, an inspector must pass a two-part comprehensive exam on standards of practice
and technical knowledge as well as submit 250 home inspection reports to
a third party for review. To retain a certification, twenty hours of
continuing education are required each year. I have earned this certification for the past 18 years.
I am also certified by the state of Virginia and am a member of Virginia Association of Real Estate Inspectors.
